# Vapor Storage Manager — full description > A desktop utility for Windows, Linux and SteamOS. It reclaims disk space that game > launchers keep after a game is uninstalled, and repairs launcher bookkeeping that > stops games launching. ## The problem it solves Uninstalling a game does not remove everything it left on disk. Steam and Epic keep shader caches, Workshop subscriptions, Proton prefixes, mod-manager archives and download scratch, usually in folders named by numeric app id rather than by game name. Because the folders are unreadable to a person, the space is rarely recovered by hand. The app matches those folders back to real game names using the Steam API and removes only what is genuinely orphaned. ## Two kinds of work 1. **Cleaning** — finding residual files and freeing the space they occupy. 2. **Fixes** — repairing state that is broken rather than merely large. Each fix scans first, lists exactly what it found, and changes nothing until the user selects it. Deletions are permanent and are shown before they happen; there is no recycle bin. ## Fixes currently shipping ### Ghost installs (Steam) A manifest is left behind when a game folder is deleted by hand or an install is interrupted. Steam still shows the game as installed and Play fails. The fix removes the manifest and the stale library entry; anything still holding game files is left alone. ### Workshop content for uninstalled games Uninstalling frees the game but not the Workshop items subscribed to it. A 20 GB game with 80 GB of mods gives back only 20 GB. ### Proton prefixes of removed games Every Windows game run through Proton gets its own fake C: drive under compatdata. Uninstalling the game leaves it behind. ### Abandoned downloads Cancelled or interrupted installs leave data in steamapps/downloading that can never resume once Steam stops tracking the game. ### Missing library folders Steam still lists a library on a drive that is gone, which breaks installs and updates and reports "not enough space" while space is free. ### Steam cache (appcache, depotcache) The standard cure for downloads that will not start, stall, or hang at unpacking. Steam rebuilds both folders on next launch. ### Steam client scratch (htmlcache, dumps, temp) A stale htmlcache is the usual reason the store loads blank or shows old prices. dumps collects crash dumps; steamapps/temp can hold a copy as large as a game. ### Ghost installs (Epic) The launcher records each installed game as a .item file, which survives deleting the folder by hand. Removing the manifest is what makes the launcher let go. ## Platforms Windows, Linux and SteamOS. The Linux build is aimed at Steam Deck and similar handhelds, where storage is small and the same leftovers accumulate. ## Licensing and pricing There is exactly one build. It runs free with a limit of 5 items per clean; entering a licence key lifts the limit. There is no separate paid installer and nothing to reinstall after buying. Personal licences (lifetime, annual, monthly) cover use by an individual on the computers they personally use. Any use by or on behalf of a company, institution or other legal entity requires a business licence, which is sold per seat: the quantity chosen at checkout is the number of licence keys issued, one per person. Purchasing is not open yet — the app cannot be bought at the moment. Prices are published on the pricing page. The business tier is not sold self-service at the moment; it is arranged through support. Every plan is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee, no reason required. Payments are processed by Paddle, acting as merchant of record; Paddle issues the invoice and collects any applicable sales tax or VAT. ## Privacy The application sends no telemetry. The site stores only what a purchase or a release alert requires. The licence email is sent once at purchase and is not re-sendable from the website; a customer who loses it goes through support. ## Links - Home: https://vapor.basewood.company/ - Download: https://vapor.basewood.company/download - Plans and FAQ: https://vapor.basewood.company/pricing - Refund policy: https://vapor.basewood.company/refund - Terms of service: https://vapor.basewood.company/terms - Privacy policy: https://vapor.basewood.company/privacy - Machine-readable API description: https://vapor.basewood.company/openapi.yaml ## Contact - Support: support@basewood.company - Publisher: Basewood
